What is a biotype?

Complete set of medical and contextual features...

A Biotype is the complete set of medical and contextual features that physicians should consider when making diagnostic or treatment decisions for a patient. It forms the foundation of a Digital Health Twin—a dynamic, virtual model of an individual's health profile that evolves with new data.

The human body is composed of interconnected units—systems, organs, tissues, cells, and organelles—that function in tandem to maintain balance, or homeostasis. This balance point, however, is not universal; it is uniquely shaped by each individual's biotype. A biotype encompasses factors such as family history, genetics, lifestyle, allergies, chronic diseases, medications, test results, surgical history, and environmental exposures. These elements interact and compensate for one another, making each patient's clinical context distinct.

For example, the optimal treatment for someone with diabetes may shift dramatically if that person also has hypertension or is a smoker. By constructing a biotype, Biotandem enables clinicians to simulate and explore these interactions in real time—bringing the Digital Health Twin concept into everyday clinical practice.
